Not losing sight of Onchocerciasis

Service Project: The blackfly  which is a common insect amongst most countries, has the potential to spread a parasite that causes the disease Onchocerciasis.  The disease is better known as river blindness and has brought blindness to hundreds of thousands of people.  If the disease does not bring blindness it makes life very uncomfortable to those individuals who suffer from being bitten.

  1. Dear Sule,

Interesting topic. I do appreciate your introduction to the subject matter. Apart from the use insecticide and the use of protective clothing, what other preventive measures can be recommended for those that live in very poor income communities – the hardest hit of River blindness!
